GVM PRO SD300C LED Monolight Review
Introduction
A few weeks ago, GVM sent me a GVM Pro SD300C Monolight to test and review with the GVM 24” Quick Release Softbox that I already own. The light can be found on Amazon for $399.20 at the writing of this blog; and let me tell you, it has everything you want and then some with brightness rivaling that of the sun when needed. I was able to use this light at many of my shoots and was blown away by the light’s performance and design. I am a huge fan of using what I call always-on lighting versus flash. It allows photographers to see the photos they will get without having to do test shots to do so and they can dial it in perfectly. It is a game-changer for studio photography. Before we get into this review further, here are some images showcasing the light, it’s size, and construction.

Ergonomics and construction
The GVM PRO SD300C is mostly made out of aluminum alloy and comes with a standard bowens mount to attach light modifiers to. It comes with a nice carrying bag and wall-plug to power it. The light weighs in at 5.95 lbs which is on the heavier side but it does have a nice handle on the back and study mounting system to offset the weight. Just be sure to get a solid light stand with a wide base also. Other than the construction, the light controls are all very ergonomic and intuitive and the light is very easy to navigate.
Brightness
The light is rated as 300 watts which is absolutely amazing. It can light up an entire room or studio like it is daytime. I have even had it overpower natural sunlight in my studio which was pretty incredible. Though it can be bight as day, the light does come with a dimmer which allows for minor adjustments from 1% to 100% power to give you just the right amount of light.
Color Temperature options
The LED light can be changed from 2000K to 10,000K also comes with many built-in presets and effects that you can use for quick lighting adjustments or creating a unique setting for videos. As far as effects go, there are lighting, candle, broken bulb, explosion, paparazzi, CCT cycle, breathing light, TV, disco, party, cop car, hue loop, fireworks, ambulance, fire engine, and SOS as options.
Mobile App
By far one of my favorite things about this light is the abiolity to control it from a distance seamlessly with the GVM mobile app on IOS or Android. You can fine tune your light or change effects without having to lay a finger on the light. Not only this but you can also control multiple lights if you have them. It is a very nice touch that I wish more companies had.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a great light for video or to use in a photography studio; the GVM Pro SD300C Monolight is a fantastic option. The light comes with every feature I could ever ask for and then some and is perfect for any job I need lighting for.
